The Bhagavad Gita is a profound source of knowledge that explores five fundamental truths and their interrelation: God (Krishna), the individual soul, the material world, action, and time. Throughout the Bhagavad Gita, Krishna imparts wisdom to Arjuna, including the path to devotion and the doctrine of selfless action. The scripture upholds the essence of Upanishadic philosophy while also integrating dualism and theism.
Over the centuries, numerous commentaries have been written on the Bhagavad Gita, each offering unique interpretations. Adi Shankara's commentary in the 8th century CE marks one of many differing views. The battlefield setting of the Gita symbolizes the ethical and moral struggles that individuals face in life.
The Bhagavad Gita's call for selfless action has inspired many leaders throughout history, including Mahatma Gandhi who regarded it as his "spiritual dictionary".
